Once Storm Diana had approached from the Azores, last week was often wet and windy. Yesterday was somewhat drier and this morning promises the rising sun's slow victory over the early mist. Through that mist I looked across the square: atop the roof of a house opposite I saw what appeared to be the silhouette of a cat. I was mistaken: the cat moved and eventually assumed the form of two large birds perched adjacently.

This evening [personal profile] mst3kmoxie fed the Christmas cake more whisky and we got to thinking about how it will be decorated. I thought back some years to my parents' cake which was reliably one of the funnier I have seen. Over the years they had accumulated plastic deer and a snowman and whatnot that would be arranged atop the royal icing: crucially, the elements differed in both style and scale. My memory now lacks detail but I still recall enjoying the way that Father Christmas towered over the chapel and the nearby fir tree.
