A frustrating day
Jan. 11th, 2026 03:16 pmLast Saturday included a combination of things that made me wish that things were done better in general.
We had to move stuff to and from the container we rented when we imagined we might be able to sell this flat. The building's lift wasn't working properly which is awkward when one has stuff to move. I'd already reported the issue and the property management people eventually closed the ticket because they hadn't heard further from anyone. Now the ticket's certainly back open and the lift's become unignorably bad.
Anyhow, when we got the container, it was advertised as 24/7 access, the contract states that and … long afterward, it still isn't. Our having normal working hours, we thus get to use its middle-of-Saturday access window which happened to coincide with a nearby football game yet again. This means that the streets are absolutely full of idiot pedestrians ignoring traffic signals, not even looking at the traffic they walk in front of, etc.; it's like driving through an American college campus but with so many more people. We try to make our way through all this to find that the police have closed streets but Google Maps doesn't know, which made it even more difficult to get both there and back. (Later, we learned that the closures related to a protest against the football club's management.) On the topic of idiots, on the drive back some young kid on an electric scooter shot right out across the road in front of me, barely looking. Fortunately for them, there was still enough space that Darwin didn't intervene.
The day's driving had a couple of other errands. One was to pick up a parcel that a courier had left at a nearby store without any permission to because they claimed nobody was in at home even though they certainly were and nobody got any
I just want things to work as they should and I still find it notable they seemed to work rather better back when I was staying in Metro Manila than they do in Glasgow. I know, I should be part of the solution but this is my journal so I can moan when I like when things don't go smoothly.

we can't delivertelephone call. Another was to go and try to drop off our recycling properly. There was a lack of pickups over the holiday so I loaded the recycling into the car and drove out to the local city waste center where the relevant dumpsters were already overfull so that was pointless. In fact, it's all still in the back of my car, waiting to find anywhere that can receive it.
