Belated festive foods before a tropical vacation

I have batter for crêpes mixed and sitting, awaiting the coming Lenten violation, I got around to Shrove Tuesday a little late but I am certainly not missing out on it. St Piran will have to wait, the Cornish pasty will be a few days hence and will contain pieces of steak. There is a special place in the beyond reserved for the degenerates who use ground beef instead.

My domestic disarray is partly due to other distractions. Among other things, I am still getting my 2021 taxes together, not a trivial task. On various fronts, I am also preparing for my return to the Philippines later this month, now they finally reopened tourism. This time, I am to be flown by All Nippon Airways via Tokyo-Narita, perhaps a contrast to my route from Scotland on Emirates via Dubai. Among other things, I plan to again visit Bonifacio Global City and swim off the coast of Oriental Mindoro.

I give you a lot of credit for getting up the courage to travel overseas and at that great a distance and expense again - I'm not there yet. Maybe in another year or so.

I think it may be a foolish risk but there are personal circumstances outweighing that. I try not to make a habit of throwing the dice, if I get through this too then my luck is holding better than I deserve.

Personal circumstances always outweigh the risk...depending of course on the personal circumstances. (My brother is flying to London in June to pick up niece for example.)

Been a while since I had a good pasty. There's a really nice pub in Phoenix called George & Dragon, where I was introduced to HP sauce. And also McEwan's ale, sadly, which they no longer carry and I haven't been able to source. I'm hoping if I ever get up to Scotland that I might be able to find it. I'm not much of a drinker, so when I find a tipple that I like, I tend to hold on to it.

Good chance you'll find McEwan's in England too should you end up there. I'll try to remember to mention if I notice it anywhere mail-order here! There's a pub here in downtown Knoxville that carries it.

Yeah, was hard to find decent pasties much far from Cornwall, was a pleasant surprise to find that a rest area off a Scottish motorway sometimes offered actually good ones. In quieter times will definitely have to perfect making my own, they're not that difficult, just bad timing right now. At least it's one of those British foods whose ingredients are easily sourced here.

I would hope McEwan's is fairly available throughout the UK!  Not nearly as much in transport costs compared to over here! ;-)  My wife is first generation American, her parents came from Scotland in the '50.  We have a lot of cousins up there, especially in Edinburg.

Definitely worth a visit then, lots to do/try in that area. My daughter's visiting soon to renew her US passport at the consulate there.

Maybe keep an eye out here too: last night I happened to pick up a four-pack of McEwan's from https://hardin-valley.thecasualpint.com/ and they had Belhaven on tap.

Good on ya!  I think while I'm in Phoenix I'll swing by a booze warehouse that I know and maybe I'll get lucky.  I pulled up McEwan's Wiki page and it turns out they were bought by Heineken in 2008 and sold in 2011, which might well correspond to when they disappeared from George & Dragon.  It's been a few years since I was back there, it's possible they carry it again.
