For the meantime I will continue to somewhat avoid news of American national politics. The ongoing glimpses I get are too frustrating and saddening. Call me an ostrich. Though, while I am living in Scotland I feel uselessly remote from it all anyway.

Grocery store conveyor belts

Checking out at Tesco today I watched the conveyor belt jerking the groceries about. I was surprised and disappointed that the technology appears to remain so very primitive despite having had many decades to mature. Is it really beyond our wit to have developed a cheap way for the belt's motion to more smoothly start and stop? In the meantime I continue to lay my groceries such that they are likely to withstand the abrupt speed changes without toppling over and rolling away.
