Mozart's Requiem Mass in D minor
Sep. 21st, 2016 08:26 pmEach summer the BBC present a varied series of
promenade concertsculminating in the recent
last night, a somewhat merry affair featuring popular classical and patriotic works. There are usually a fair few worthwhile classical performances among the concerts and this year I saved for later viewing the performance of Mozart's Requiem Mass featuring the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Collegium Vocale Gent, and of course various soloists. This is one of my very favorite works but I had never actually listened to it with the help of video with English-language subtitling for the libretto. I don't know the liturgy at all well and would hesitantly guess that it is rather consistent among the different such requiems but it made a pleasant difference to have the meaning of the words available as an added dimension of the experience.
