The election results provide plenty to talk about, especially as the Liberal Democrats seem to have been effectively strategic. It's interesting to look at how national vote share compares with the number of seats they won, in contrast with the Greens and Reform who came out on a rather worse side of that coin. There's a similar lack of correspondence when comparing the difference in those numbers between the Conservatives' final term, and our new glorious dawn's term.

I wonder how the Conservatives will respond to their loss. They've already purged many of those of whom I might have thought well. They're caught between Labour, who moved distinctly right since Neil Kinnock's tenure, and the xenophobic Reform party. They could try to occupy similar ground as Labour in the hope that Labour disappoints but it took years for the Liberal Democrats to recover from far less grave sins than the Conservatives'.

Here in Glasgow, Labour took all the seats from the SNP. I didn't expect the SNP to do quite so badly, especially with having a new leader (previously my MP) to whom I'd imagined less scandal attaches, so I also wonder what they will do differently in the time they have before the next Scottish elections. I suppose that Scottish inclination toward independence may be weaker when the Conservatives don't hold Westminster.

An odd facet of living toward the centre of the city is that we catch sight of some of the parades that come through the streets. So, still on the topic of politics: yesterday we had the Orange Order marching again, just like this time last year. I have the least insight into the election results from Northern Ireland.
