A couple of dream fragments

A turtle needed taking from its usual pool for some reason and, before its return, another turtle had been put in the same pool. The first turtle had been returned and was swimming toward the new turtle so I was about to see how it reacted to this new arrival but I woke up a moment too soon. Oddly, they were swimming on the surface of the water.

Separately, I was on a kind of train that had passed through a portal and was about to enter some kind of hyperspace for the bulk of its journey between the portals. The political situation in the place-between-the-portals had changed, it was more developed with people and buildings, so we could not simply enter our straight-through hyperspeed mode. Instead, we needed to stop and learn the new lay of the land so as to see what could be negotiated, etc. for future transit. In meeting one of the local rulers, conversation drifted to if it would have much changed the course of the Vietnam War had a specific South Vietnamese general been killed.
