Easier to think of older movies
Nov. 10th, 2021 05:43 pmI was trying to think of movies that I much liked and was struck by how few of them were from the last twenty years. In time, I did manage to think of a few more recent movies, so perhaps I learned something about how my memory works. It could be that the older movies have had more time to mark me more deeply, or I am now worse at recording new memories. It transpires that most of my favorite movies, especially among the more recent, are science fiction.

Date: 2021-11-10 11:20 pm (UTC)I think part of the reason recent movies seem less impactful (memory-forming) is that they are so much more common now. Seeing a show, even at a theater, is not such a special event now as it used to be, so there's less reason to imprint it upon our life's experience. Maybe? *ignorant, speculative shrug*
