Equity in remote versus on-site work

A few places that I have worked had an office layout that varied rather in social connectivity. Some workers might be off in an overflow annex, some might be on some other site, etc., while others share some main room with their group. For example, in my previous job I used to try to fill in a couple of the remote workers with news I had heard in the office. In the job before that, I relocated away from my group to an area with fewer audial and visual distractions, though I had a second chair in my cubicle that I hoped visitors found welcome. With working remotely now, everybody has equal access to each other via online chat, video, etc. I wonder how valuable that equity is. Before the pandemic, apparently we have indeed been somewhat split across rooms and sites, so probably yet will again. I hope nobody ends up placed such that they feel left out.

That would be hard on someone.

My office is between the two big executive suites. I'm all by my lonesome in it, which is why some people assume when they come in that I'm a receptionist and not an admin. (So I act like a receptionist and direct them to where they need to be, because I really don't care.)

Sometimes I do feel really isolated and "set-apart." But mostly I find it comfortable.
