Washer/dryer saga

Our rental agreement gives us responsibility for more in and around the house than might be usual, including the combination washer/dryer it came with for laundry. That one reached imminent end of life when its main bearing went. Hoping to save money, and noting we plan to move to Dundee in a couple of years' time, we bought a used one from an appliance store. It worked rather well except for that it would unpredictably refuse to turn back on after going into standby mode. The failure mode naturally failed to present itself to the repair guy. Further, the shop is a peculiar little place that turns out mostly not even to be open during its posted hours. Anyhow, they changed it for a replacement unit that is more weirdly unpredictable. For example, just today, the drying mode after regular cottons brought barely perceptible warmth, it let me open it and spill water all over the floor, and it it got itself into a peculiar mode where its response to my selecting the
pump outprogram was to pump even more water into itself. Its failings are not apparent to a different repair guy. I've given up with these used ones, we have a brand new washer/dryer from a different store arriving later this week, with luck at least that one might last for the remainder of our tenancy.
