Our cat from Massachusetts was always an indoor cat and so he remains. Now living in Britain we are back in the land of outdoor cats and indeed in our Scottish village many households have such a cat. Our cat's actually quite well-built for the winter, with having a good amount of body mass, a couple of layers of fur, even some tufts coming down between his toes, but many of the local cats seem to be some kind of normal domestic shorthair.

On frosty nights like this, if I go outdoors I meet some of the local cats and this surprises me. Are they really doing okay? I guess they must be. I wonder if they can go indoors or their owners provide them some more warm or sheltered place from which they then roam as they please. I hope they do. I don't know what is normal for owners here to provide but catflaps are probably common.
