Aches and pains continued

As expected, my shoulder and side are a little improved today; I still expect them to be fine by the weekend. After work yesterday I did still manage to get useful tasks done, mostly ones I would normally do at the weekend except for that we didn't get back from England until late Sunday afternoon, with more Lancashire cheese in hand. At work I have been making slow but steady progress with learning some basic Ansible; it helped to be pointed to our repository of roles which are amenable to git grep --recurse-submodules …. Today I got a simple additional role to seem to actually work despite my having had a headache for what must now be over twenty-four hours. Painkillers have at least reduced it somewhat. Unfortunately I am no closer to identifying triggers.

We use Ansible extensively at work and OTW. It's annoying in a number of ways, but still quite useful.

Mmmm, my main annoyances are having to dig through layers of role and variable-following and whatnot to check specifically what something actually does (and then finding the underlying module vague) (I'm the kind of person who digs into the source of third-party libraries) and the fact that it's yet another thing that doesn't solve a problem that I actually have. It's a nice idea but for anything I do I am fine with just noting shell scripts, etc. to bring a vanilla installation into line with what I want and if its state starts to get out of hand then I just attach the data volume to another fresh-made and ditch the previous. Still, I concede that on this latest attempt it's turning out to be less awful than I'd feared.

Also I don't want to become overly remote from the concrete configuration in case I need to dig around it to see why it's not behaving as I expected.

Do you still have your gallbladder? The reason I ask is that the pain you're experiencing, along with the headache, could be a gallbladder attack. I'd never had an attack as far as I knew when I had a week of being in really bad pain and nauseated. I never ran a fever, and didn't have other symptoms, but I did have a headache.

I ended up having emergency surgery!

Just keep it in mind.

That's a good thought, thank you for asking. I think I'm fine: the pain isn't at all within my ribcage, it feels fairly external like where a muscle attaches.
