Sometimes I cannot sleep: my principal stressors are reduced but not yet resolved. I see well in the dark. At around 2am last night I was up and about downstairs with the lights off. We have been enjoying The Haunting of Hill House (2018) in which strange spectral figures slowly approach along dark corridors; it is preferred that we have good lighting in the drawing room for watching it.

With having injured my back on Thursday I was amused to realize that perhaps it is good that I did not bump into either of my children last night as I shuffled slowly along the dark hallway with my crooked gait: after yesterday evening's viewing, for a moment they may have been appropriately horrified.

I will recover fine in the end. I am a little better from day to day and I am used to nursing my back, it is not a new kind of injury for me. Thursday evening's analgesics offered negligible relief so I did not bother with any yesterday. Needless to say I shall be skipping workouts for a couple of days yet. I hope to be fairly mobile by Monday morning when I am to speak at a symposium in Dundee. [personal profile] mst3kmoxie will kindly drive me in for it if need be.

Update: [personal profile] mst3kmoxie did drive me in and the talk went fine. Once I got back home I was very glad to rest on a comfortable chair in the evening.

I hope it gets better quickly! With any kind of strain it always seems to me the only answer is rest, rest, and more rest. Which is not my usual mode of operation. (Though I am the Nap Queen.)
