Glasgow Pride March
Jul. 18th, 2023 07:50 amLast Saturday, we attended Glasgow's Pride March, arriving near the start just as it was setting off. Once the end reached us, we were able to head north and catch it a couple more times as it wove back and forth through the city centre.
I had not anticipated how uplifting I would find it to see so many people out and happy. The parade was very diverse but, more strikingly, huge, far larger than I had expected. Tens of thousands of people marched, later estimates suggested that the parade was around a mile long. As one group after another reached us, it just kept on coming.
There was some anger among the joy, there is still so far to go. Nonetheless, whether in celebration or defiance, it was a breath of fresh air to see so very many people able to be their various selves so publicly. The event felt like a most heartening marker on a long, hard journey.
