My front yard, where the mowing is of greatest importance, doesn't get sun until the afternoon, so a warm, clear day is welcome if I want the dew to have dried from the grass before I mow. This month has been unseasonably cold so I was surprised to find myself donning a short-sleeved shirt for mowing yesterday. After I came back indoors, I checked the local temperature, apparently it was 29°C, so nice indeed.

How much to mow around the back of the house is nicely determined for me. I use an electric mower that is part of a set of tools that share batteries. For example, after I mow the front, I move a battery over to the weed eater, then another to the leaf blower, which blows the cut grass off my paths. Afterward, in mowing around the side and back, the charge is eventually exhausted. There is enough to allow me net progress over time, which is sufficient for me.

This lunchtime I drank a beer with an ex-neighbor. They sold their house, loaded their pickup truck with their most desired possessions, and are off to Northern California to buy a fifth-wheel trailer and live among the redwoods. Sounds nice. They're retired, thinking about supplementing their social security income by teaching guitar. With luck, it will work out idyllically.
