I have my fireplace more or less set up, even a maul for splitting my rounds of dry wood, but I have not felt much urgency, it hasn't seemed quite time. Belatedly noticing how far through winter we already are, I realize that I am simply used to a different climate. For example, for the other places I've lived in the US, today they failed to get much above freezing, yet here it didn't even get close, the high was 57°F. I doubt that we will much get the winter cold I remember, like when I still wear my gloves inside the car and my breath freezes to the inside of the windshield. Now I check the climate records, I find that average lows in January are barely below freezing here. Clearly, I should be more ready to light a fire or I rarely shall.
