Annoying computers

Features of my morning so far include,

• talk.google.com is failing authentication with XMPP over SSL. Nothing has changed on my end and there is no hint in Google's account management of any security issue. At least for leaving Hangouts open in Chromium I finally found the use system title bar and borders option.


• The University's turning off IMAP because it doesn't support MFA, except that their server clearly offers OAuth2, my guess is they simply need to turn off basic authentication in Office 365.


• Copying last weekend's backup onto the next redundant volume causes the computer to reboot. My guess is that it is failing to handle filesystem corruption after a power cut this morning so I am now running fsck.
