Intelligent battery chargers

Usually I am frustrated that I cannot get on top of life because I am putting out an ongoing stream of fires that should never have started in the first place. Today was unusual in including an easy success. I was accumulating a number of AA batteries that my charger did not recognize. Briefly jump-starting them with a full battery and a couple of paper clips appears to have returned them to regular service. The underlying theory appears to be that the charger is recognizing a flat battery by it still being able to deliver enough charge to be recognized as being in the slot at all: dumping that little bit more in was enough of a trigger.
