Another exercise hiatus ends
Jun. 12th, 2018 07:24 pmA series of obstacles has interrupted my attempts at frequent exercise. The latest was that a bolt in the base of our cross-trainer broke. The bolt fits into an awkward location: recessed into the base of the main body of the machine, its rear covered by plastic moulding. The broken end was deep in the screw hole so could not be gripped. I used some tough left-handed drill bits to establish and widen a pilot hole. The left-handedness worked as hoped: as I drilled, the broken end unscrewed itself and came free so I did not even need to move on to an extractor bit. The 12.9-grade replacement bolts should arrive tomorrow and I expect to be able to exercise consistently again.
Last year I was maintaining my weight loss by limiting myself to eating no more than 16Mcal each week. With this year's various practical impediments to my using the cross-trainer I have been applying a 14Mcal limit instead. Still, my BMI is now up to around 24½ and both the US' NIH and the UK's NHS agree that it should remain under 25 so even after resuming my exercise plan I will keep my maintenance diet tight until I have bought myself more room to maneuver. Curiously the BMI guidance varies by ethnicity.
