Securing lawnmower handles

An ongoing irritation for me is that one side of the lawnmower handle would come out of the main unit and need pushing back in. I decided to remove the fastening from the other side and purchase a match but this plan was thwarted by the fact that the other side's fastening is also missing.
If I find screws and bolts and suchlike on the ground then I tend to put them aside for a while in case their significance becomes apparent. I do have a pair of small thick nail things that were about the correct size but they did not quite fit in the holes in the lawnmower handle. I measured them and bought some slightly thinner screws with a large enough head to stop them disappearing into the holes alotgether. They fit so I shall put some tape over them in expectation of the fix sufficing.
