Christmas naturally comes with increased religious programming on television. This year the BBC's coverage included a midnight Mass from St Anne's in Leeds then, for the following Christmas morning, the Eucharist from All Saints in West London. This matches the pattern I have noticed of including both a Roman Catholic service and an Anglican service. On television that had felt to me to be a distinction without much of a difference given how the BBC typically chooses a rather high Anglican church. This time it was rather easy to tell them apart: Monday's Anglican service from All Saints was led by a female vicar, I would guess non-stipendiary which I suspect may be another difference between the traditions.

I read that the BBC is directed to include more religious programming among its output. I do not expect that to include more frequently covering conventional Christian church services but it would be interesting for me to see English-language services for other faiths too, at least for their special occasions. I do not know if there is any demand.
