I concur intuitively but have yet to come up with a compelling example. I do know that I'd highly value being of independent means and the alternative paths to it don't look a lot more likely. Whereas income differences that would let me have a newer car or eat out more often or retire a year earlier or whatever really don't make that much difference to me overall.
