Varied routes
Sep. 16th, 2016 08:26 pmOne of the many things I enjoyed about living in central Ohio was my drive to and from work each weekday: I had a variety of routes available and the road network's layout's general tendency toward being a grid made improvisation quite easy. This contrasts markedly with commuting between Perth and Dundee along the A90: I could drive national cycle route 77 instead but it would be far slower and probably less safe.
After work I normally leave Dundee along Perth Road but it is again closed for construction. While it is not the shortest alternative, I am choosing to join the A85 where it starts and head out from Dundee entirely along the Firth of Tay. Taking an odder route at least pleases me through being quite different from a normal city street and it does genuinely offer some lovely views on a sunny day. Sometimes there are even seals basking on the sandbank. One may go on to take a slower detour past the James Hutton Institute to Kingoodie and see the waterfowl but I would rather still reach home at a good time.
