In my first full week here I have made good progress. I returned the rental car and bought a 1.6ℓ Kia Rio. I looked at houses and am buying a ranch-style family home in Oak Ridge itself, plenty of brick and wood, closing next month; I meet the inspection team there this Tuesday. Next week I shall start researching furniture, utility providers, etc., for the house. It also still needs a couple of appliances, such as refrigerator, washer, dryer.
For my driver license, I studied for and passed the knowledge test then booked the road skills test, there happened to be a Friday 13th slot available! For my driver license, I studied for and passed the knowledge test then booked the road skills test, there happened to be a Friday 13th slot available! The knowledge test has been a source of stress because, although multiple choice, the Tennessee one is tough: in my session they asked me questions like,
How much more likely is a person with 0.10% blood alcohol content to cause a crash, than a sober person?and,
After a DUI conviction within five years of a previous DUI, for how long must a breath-testing interlock be installed?(They worded them differently.) There are plenty of other numbers now in my head, such as, when parking near a fire station, one can be within 20' on the same side or 75' on the opposite, and, for parking in general, there should be 200' visibility in both directions, 18' of space at the side for traffic to pass, and any curb should be within 18" of one's car. I told myself that I am very able academically, learning new technical detail is a forté, and (with all due respect) so many regular Tennesseans have passed this test. I scored 100%, which is most agreeable indeed, and I am relieved to be past the weight of having to be ready to be examined on such material.
