Another online forum ends

At the end of last year I mentioned the coming demise of GROGGS, a kind of bulletin board system loosely associated with the University of Cambridge. Last Tuesday it was finally shut down. I am now down to one worthwhile general discussion forum that, unfortunately, is reincarnated via Slack. I still wonder where else I should look, especially in wanting to be able to avoid graphical clients, and also how not to reinvent the wheel if needing to enable something myself. I also face the challenge that a forum needs enough members to gain vitality but one or two who are too willing to ascribe silliness or mendacity to others can poison the whole experience.
