When I was losing weight I organized my calories budget such that over the week unused calories rolled over to subsequent days. When I increased my energy allowance in shifting more toward maintenance I also simplified the system: unused calories no longer roll over and I try not to leave many uneaten.

For this weekend I decided to make an exception. I picked up a butter chicken ready meal partly because of one of those annoying buy-many-get-them-cheaper deals as one of my children also picked one up. While I do like tomato and spice, there was rather more sauce than chicken: once I had eaten the chicken I probably still had a couple of hundred calories' worth of sauce left. So, I put it in the refrigerator and planned to make a bit of rice today with which to finish the sauce off. I shall count the rice among today's calories and leave the ready meal counted among yesterday's.

I probably could have come up with a better estimate for how to split the calories across diet days but I rather doubt that to be worth the effort. Still, I decided to make a journal entry about the decision because I like exceptions to actually be exceptional.
