Despite people's impression of Scottish weather, since we moved to our current abode we have rarely had snow settle for long. The higher ground to the north and west typically gets the precipitation; it hosts the marked ski runs. Our temperatures remain mild because we are situated on the low-lying land near where the river becomes a firth.

My commute home this evening ended with some cautious driving through wind and snow that made me glad of my experience in Ohio. It is pleasant to see that tonight we have enough snow on the ground that one could easily make a snowman. We are at the orange* awareness level for snow and ice. There may be a little more tomorrow.

*In some places I read amber. I do not know whether that is from a different warning system or one is simply an easy-vocabulary translation of the other.

Update: The weather stranded drivers on the M74 for several hours.
