I'm in agreement with you. This type of software is nowhere near robust enough to trust yet. People seem to have no appreciation for just how badly software can behave when anything out of the ordinary happens.
In the long term, I can believe Auto Pilot software will be safer and more reliable than human drivers, but it'll be a long time before it gets there.
