They're quite common in Britain: their form here tends to be mashed potato and flaked or minced fish mixed together and formed into a round patty, then breaded (or sometimes battered) and deep-fried and served hot. It's common to adulterate the filling mixture with herbs, cheese, etc. Tesco's range are presently here.
