COVID-19 lives under the rug

I experience ongoing dissonance. On the one hand, I read of abundant SARS-CoV-2 infection, reinfection, mutation, increasing clear incidence of long COVID, etc. On the other hand, nobody's wearing a mask and life continues as if it were the Before Times. It's unusual for me to have the sense of joining the Cassandras.

I saw my immunologist Monday, he said there's a total of about 120 Covid hospitalizations in the entire state of NM! Pretty remarkable. I don't know what the total number of infections are, but at least the hospitalization rate is very manageable. And I guess the availability of the drug they're using is pretty good as long as you can get a positive test result early enough for it to be effective. I've done a double-dose of Evusheld since I'm immune compromised, which theoretically gives me pretty good protection for nine months, so I'll probably be re-upped on that before October, and they'll probably have an updated mix of that by then to account for the newer strains of Omicron.

Absolutely agree!  Long-haul Covid is pretty terrifying!  Not to mention brain fog for those of us who especially work with our noggins!
