One thing that brings home to me that I now live at the heart of a large city is, on the way back home tonight after heading out for milk, I noticed that Joe Satriani is playing just several minutes' walk away.
One thing that I miss about living in Phoenix is culture. No museum here, the playing venue isn't all that great, one lousy movie theater with ten screens. The theater chain is lousy, not that the theater itself is all that great - they do a terrible job of scheduling and selection.
Ah, that's a shame, I found Cambridge, England, kind of small in some ways but at least there was some diversity in movie showings, and London was within easy reach when necessary. Back in Dundee I was glad that I at least got to see some things like the 50th anniversary showing of 2001 (I was too unborn the first time around).
For mainstream fare, we found that driving a little out of the center means lower ticket prices, worth it when there are four of us.
