Extended television stand assembly

To my surprise, assembling my television stand is an effort that I am spreading over a few days. Simply unpacking it from the flat-pack was already an ordeal, there was much tape and a kind of improvised exoskeleton strengthening the outer box. The hardware is labeled A thru Z and not always clearly illustrated so it took me a while to assign letters to the packets; the different kinds of screw were among the last I faced. I am now some way into actually assembling the pieces, of which there are twenty-two kinds, having solved other issues, like which is 6 and which is 9.

Update: The television stand is now built, it even needed some extra drilling. I shall leave a review.

OMG, assembling things can be so complicated.

Pat and I tend to be good at it, fortunately, but the directions for such things require a lot more intuitive understanding than they imply. If you don't have a particularly "mechanical" sort of mind they a total pain. (Which is why we both get asked to help assemble things for friends and for me at work.)

Ha, yes, this does not come naturally to me. I found woodworking and metalworking interesting in high school, I am glad I had those classes, but for me it was all uphill. I have a decent applied math background but with practical stuff I also need time to think and study it. E.g., the holes weren't in quite the right place for one of the stand's drawers and it was only on the third assembly attempt that I got it workable enough, by inserting another piece earlier than I was supposed to before tightening that earlier part up (it just wasn't going in there otherwise). I am just relieved that the flat-pack contents in what I have ordered since this move have tended to be enough correct, so far; this one in particular, I never want to have to attempt to return!

Yeah, that's the most frustrating thing. Sometimes you have to kind of work-around the directions. What a pain in the butt.
