Dramas that are difficult to watch

The television drama Black Mirror (2011) occupies a strange and special place in how I regard shows. As an anthology series it is unusually good at presenting interesting ideas to which I am glad to be exposed. However, as evening entertainment, goodness, it's often bleakly, unpleasantly depressing, it's more fun to watch Waking the Dead (2000) and that's a show that makes Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999) seem light. I find Black Mirror heavy going and do not choose to watch it but I would like to be in the position of having watched more of it as I find myself coming back to thinking about episodes that I have seen.

See, this has been my difficulty of late - I can't watch a lot of really good programs right now due to their bleak and depressing, and often graphically violent content.

I keep meaning to watch Black Mirror, but can't get myself to do so. I did have a rather entertaining chat with an uncle that I recommended it too. He was upset with the Politician and the Pig episode. And did not understand how I could handle that. I advised him that I wouldn't know since I had not seen it. "So you rec'd something you haven't even seen?" "Well, yes, it came highly recommended from friends who saw it. And you appear to have liked it - outside of the Pig Episode." (I had to look up the pig episode to figure out why he was so upset. I was rather disappointed, it didn't seem all that bad to me - I'd seen worse on Alfred Hitchcock Presents.]

I will admit that I avoid dramas that are disturbing. I have issues with anxiety, and have had horrible nightmares after watching such things. So I've given them up.

If the good guy doesn't win, I'm doomed.

It was later in the 2nd season (3rd? I can't remember) when it improved by tying these stories together into a cohesive single universe. All very strange and memorable and think-worthy later, however disturbing they usually were.
