Surprising arithmetic

Today included for me a lesson in having one's software do basic sanity checks on data that is to be seen externally. My bank sent me a letter notifying me that if I were to use the planned overdraft facility to borrow £750 for three months then the total cost to me would be very nearly £1.3bn. Their call center operator agrees with me that this is probably not what they intended.

Reminds me of moving in to a flat to get a gas bill starting at 0 and dating back to the construction of the flats a few years ago, for £2000-odd. In a way this was better than later in the process when the spurious bills were for £500 because it was so hilariously wrong that no-one could use the "computer says no" argument on us.

Now, I'm not an accountant, but I don't think that that's compliant with the UK's APR cap on payday lending?
