Agreeable politics

[personal profile] mst3kmoxie was telling me about how Belgium and the Netherlands swapped land to better fit the geography of the River Meuse which sounded to me like an unusually rational political act. Together with the probable rolling back of US healthcare and environmental policy and the news that the UK's Investigatory Powers Act may violate EU privacy law it again got me to thinking about how I sometimes actually agree with political acts. Some legislative bodies do great work: for example, compare the Danish push for green energy with the current Conservative administration; is that connected with the strength of the oil lobby in the UK? I do value diversity in governance and thus have some sympathy for the US' tradition of states' rights. I also wonder: Where could I live that I would find most politically agreeable? Why do I fit better with their electorate? Is my duty to instead remain where I am and push for similar change locally or could that be an insensitive imposition of my own values?
