Consumption of psychoactive drugs

I read that Public Health England estimates that alcohol-related harm costs around 2% of GDP; one assumes that it also brings significant non-financial costs. This reminds me to reflect upon my own policy. I had been vaguely moving away from partaking of drug-like chemicals such as caffeine and alcohol. I have no great concern for preserving the purity and essence of my natural fluids but it abstractly seems wise to tack away from making a habit of substances that probably wouldn't be so legally available were they not culturally entrenched and easily made.

Lately I have been allowing myself several cups of coffee each week and a few shots of whisky, even a little Coca-Cola. I enjoy them. Maybe that's okay and too little to be worth further thought. Still, it's enough that perhaps I don't rest entirely comfortably with it: I have resisted buying myself some beer too.
