Reflecting one's opinions
The worthwhile television drama
Black Mirror(2011) has for three seasons given us glimpses into various technology-enabled near futures that typically hover somewhere between dark satire and dire warning. We have had years of different cable news channels catering to various political leanings. We now have
false newsincreasingly filling people's website feeds as those sites capture readers' patronage by showing them articles that are more what they want to read than they are balanced and truthful. There thus seems plenty of scope for exploring what happens to society when this trend leads further into individual echo chambers. I wonder if I am forgetting a previous episode of
Black Mirrorthat already covered this because it feels to be firmly in Charlie Brooker's bailiwick, especially after
Newswipe(2009).
