Living in the future

Walking past a side-street I wondered if it afforded passage to another street roughly parallel to the one I was walking along. My first thought was of the possibility of summoning my location's satellite photographs on my cellphone, which struck me as exciting military science-fiction but would probably work just fine given Google Maps' integration with GPS. My second thought was to look for a cul-de-sac sign, and indeed there were a couple, but I suppose they aren't a reliable indicator for pedestrians anyway.
