Starting the holiday at home

Despite some difficulties, I managed to get a work project running reasonably last week and it is a relief to have the initial delivery behind me. The remaining to-do's can wait until next month.

This weekend's quite windy. I am now back from a walk over the squiggly bridge into the city centre to buy a few small items, at least it is more sunny than rainy right now. I returned home over the pedestrian suspension bridge near St Enoch Square. Especially near the Clyde, I had my hat pressed quite firmly over my head lest the wind take it.

Over the holiday, we will have a quiet time. My kids are in the US, R.'s are in Asia, it's just us and the animals for Christmas while our kids see extended family. It's great to take a breath, catch up with things, and enjoy being together.

I'll bet it's quite the relief to have that project moving along and this phase behind you!

Friday was our last day until the 2nd, I shut down interlibrary loan for Friday through the 1st as I knew the odds of any mail going out on Friday were pretty much nil, I didn't want an outbound book sitting on our side for a week and a half.

It's nice to have a break or a bit of rest. So many are busy during the holidays, and I've learned over time, it's sometimes better not to be...to just be.

After Monday, I'll have the 24-29th off, then I go to the new location for two days, and take another little break, and in again on Jan 6, or that's the plan at least.

That sounds pretty good. Many of my past holidays involved visiting family (which often isn't very restful) so this is a nice new pattern for us.

Ha, yes. There was a previous meeting in which I'd said, the holidays are coming and I've burned most of the slack already and the other team members are otherwise busy and non-tech said, uh, yeah, better imperfect than late so yes, a relief indeed.

Visiting people is rarely restful. There's the anxiety of getting there, and then of course the anxiety of getting home. And depending on how well you get along with them? The socializing. Also sleeping in a different bed, no control over the food choices, etc.

Yes, and even if I've learned to do various real-world things well enough as an adult, at heart I'm probably still an introvert, there's always a taxing background of social anxiety and suchlike. I find wider socialization rewarding but it's always a relief to be back with only those closest to me.
