I've found it literally handy to have a range of things at hand, often when something unexpected comes up, I have a way to deal with it among my possessions. Whether that's worth the baggage is another matter. I am sentimental too, mind, e.g., when I cleaned my shoes lately, I used the brushes that I had used with my father when I was a little kid. But, then, I think of other handy items, like my devices for opening tough jars, and it all adds up.
