Finding good reading glasses cheaply

Someday I shall need a new pair of reading glasses. With some luck, I will continue to be able to use ready-made glasses, presently I have both +1.00 and +1.50 to hand.

As I mentioned here a few years ago, in Britain there is considerable variety in the quality of the manufacturing of off-the-shelf glasses. My current glasses are from Superdrug's Foster Grant range which, at the time, reviewed well for optical criteria like positioning of the centers and accurate lens strength. I suspect that the same variability exists in the US market, I guess I may have to find out which brands are well-made here.

Foster Grants are probably made the best, but I buy the ultra-cheapies off Amazon so that I have a whole lot of glasses around. My problem, in conjunction with not being able to see anything close, is never finding the fucking things when I need them. So I "literally" have glasses in every room of the house except the bathroom. (And in the bedroom I have two pairs - one by the tv and one by the bed.)
