Cornish roads
Despite having lived in Cornwall for many years I had forgotten quite how slow some roads here can be. Sometimes even on an A road I can spend long stretches in only second or third gear, albeit at some speed, because the road is steep with many tight bends. When I am down to the B roads I am often stopping completely at a wider point so that oncoming traffic has space to pass. (There are also C and D roads but they are so minor that their identification is rarely signposted.) This afternoon provided me quite a reminder of driving in Cornwall: on the way up the A3078, when nearly to the A390, I stopped for a good while to let a herd of cows make its way along the road. Admittedly, the main long-distance roads are far better than they were decades ago, one can now drive from one side of the county to the other much more quickly than previously.
