Surprising transportation, etc.

On Friday afternoon I had business in Southport and the air show opened that evening. I got back out of Southport in good time but was surprised later that evening by a Lancaster bomber low over Chorley; I think there is only one flying in Europe at the moment. I later heard that the pilot is from Hesketh Bank and while in that area the following afternoon I got a very good view of the airplane which came over twice. Also on that afternoon England beat Sweden in soccer; the World Cup has been full of surprises. Croatia's later victory over Russia went right down to the wire, just as England's previous win over Colombia had.

Last year I had mentioned the Chorley Travelodge's cat. It turns out to remain a local fixture. My room's bathroom felt variously inadequate, including: no extractor fan; bathtub a bit short; toilet roll occupying the space where humans like to put a shoulder. In remediating previously mentioned inadequacies with the rooms at least this time I had a four-way power strip with me.

Today I did not linger further in Lancashire: I brought our old Peugeot 306 back to our usual garage in Dundee as the clutch feels to be failing and, while we have driven barely drivable cars, I am not as good at driving without a clutch as my late father was. On the drive back up the M6 a fair bit of traffic left onto the M55 and the Lake District attracted much of the rest. As that car has a cassette player, thus albums dated accordingly, my music included that of Eurythmics, The Human League and Erasure.
