The best of Star Trek

Star Trek and its various spin-offs have a number of good episodes among them: some became part of popular culture, others are simply worth watching. However, there is also a lot of dross: some seasons have distinctly dull or silly periods and, in experimenting with different ideas, there are misses as well as hits. Perhaps with some exceptions, such as the conflict with the Dominion in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Seven of Nine's initial de-Borg-ification in Star Trek: Voyager, there are so many episodes with so little arc development that the overall story, where there is any, survives one's being rather selective. And, some extended arc is quite missable, like the Xindi in Star Trek: Enterprise which I found ongoingly tedious.

It would probably be good to have my children get to see some of the best of Star Trek without having to spend time wading through a whole lot of it. I suspect that many fans have helpfully reviewed and rated every episode. I should locate and take a look through the rankings and form a plan accordingly.
